When I pulled up to Fearrington, there was a blue sky to my left and dark clouds to my right. It felt absolutely lovely – a warm breeze wrapping around you, not too hot, but lush and green – just like you would imagine an April wedding on a farm. I knew I had to do as many pictures outside as I could, just in case it started to rain, so I got to work.
In the middle of the photos, a downpour happened. I rushed all the details back inside just as I finished capturing them: invitations, rings, shoes, jewelry… but I got it all just in time. When I went to check on Lea, she had the biggest smile on her face. “Rain is good luck on your wedding day, right? Glad we made the call this morning to go with the rain plan!” And then she joyfully returned to getting ready.
As silly as it might sound, I always believe this is a sign for a lasting marriage. Brides are obviously very entitled to be upset and cry on their wedding day if things don’t go as planned – it’s their wedding day! But when a bride, like Lea, flows with it, with joy unshaken, it’s a demonstration that she can flow with LIFE. She can flow with CHANGE. She can flow with some unmet expectations, and still permeate love and joy.
My favorite part of this wedding, hands down, was listening to the toasts at the reception. I learned that Kevin was loyal and faithful through a season of life that was so difficult for Lea when she lost her Dad. Again, when life threw something unexpected their way – they stuck together and pressed through.
Kevin ADORES Lea. To watch the two of them together is just so sweet! But to know how deep their love, loyalty, maturity, and commitment run makes all the difference.
Congratulations, Kevin and Lea. What a joy it was capturing your day!
