God knew exactly what He was doing when He gave me Lauren and Braxton for my last wedding.
I hit it off immediately with Lauren! It felt like we had known each other a long time after the first few interactions we had with one another. Then I met Lauren and Braxton for their engagement session, and we had a blast. They were so easy going, it just felt so easy! I was very pregnant at the time, and we talked all about me having 3 girls, and how sweet it was that the next time we’d see each other, they would be getting married and I would have a new baby. They made me feel so loved and celebrated! Lauren’s mom especially made me feel so welcomed every time I saw them. Their warmth and kindness is something I’ll never forget.
Fast forward a bit… I had my surprise baby boy, and their wedding day was approaching. We met so I could photograph her bridal session a few months before her wedding, and Lauren and her mom were so excited about everything that had happened!! I had a boy! I announced I was closing NRP! I started a podcast! I was ready to celebrate them, and in turn, they were celebrating me! Again, I felt so incredibly loved.
And then, their beautiful wedding day arrived! A gorgeous October day, a day I had looked forward to and dreaded for months. I was thrilled to capture Lauren and Braxton’s wedding – they are seriously such beautiful people. But I dreaded the day because of how much I love my work, I love being a wedding photographer, and I was sad to see this work that I love so much officially come to an end.
October 26th had been on my calendar for quite some time : my last wedding. One thing I knew: I wanted to give it my ALL. I wanted to do the very best I could with what I had been given. I wanted to be present in every moment, to cry if I needed to, to offer my very best work, to end strong.
And of course, Lauren and Braxton were so kind, so loving, and so wonderful. Lauren asked me 100 times : “How are you doing? It’s your last wedding! How are you feeling??” And I’d smile and say “Don’t worry about me!! This is YOUR wedding day! I’m thrilled to be here!” It just goes to show you how mature and selfless Lauren is. She’s the kind of friend who is always looking out for YOU. She’s one of those rare brides who has a heart for others, even on her own wedding day. After photographing a gazillion brides, it’s a special mark of maturity and love that she will take with her into her marriage and friendships for the rest of her life.
I could go on and on. The friendships, the family, the straight up fun they had on the dance floor, the ceremony, the toasts, the handwritten notes that Lauren’s mom and I exchanged after the wedding day that will mean more to me than she’ll ever know….
God knew what He was doing when He gave me Lauren and Braxton for my last wedding.
Lauren and Braxton, I’m so happy for you! Y’all will forever have such a special place in my heart, and I’m so thankful to have ended my wedding photography career photographing your special day. It was truly an honor!
