I have been really lucky with weather this year when it comes to weddings and sessions (not one has been rained out!), but this session deserves applause all its own. Aubrey and I had been talking throughout the day, keeping an eye on the weather. That morning it was dark and rainy for hours, so we seriously considering postponing the session. The sun decided to peek his head out from behind the clouds for a few moments after lunch, which gave us high hopes. We decided to keep the session in our plans for that day. However, as soon as I got into my car, I grabbed my rainjacket and rainboots because it was, once again, pouring.

I drove in the rain almost the whole way there. The session was at the lovely NC State Arboretum, which is about 35 minutes from my home. I was feeling pretty hopeless, that is, until I was about 5 minutes away. After a dark, cloudy, rainy day, and a long, rainy drive, I could hardly believe I was seeing blue skies! The sun came out at the very last minute and stayed out. In my years of photography, I’ve never seen weather like this. It was perfect!

We were all so happy! Brenton kept us laughing, and Aubrey’s smile was beautiful. This couple is so easy going, and so genuinely happy. I had so much fun capturing their memorable engagement session. Congratulations, you two. Can’t wait for your big day!

I just love the use of the wood as a background for some of these images – they look so real (if that makes sense!).

We are so glad you are here!
