It has been a dream of mine to photograph a wedding in Europe for the last 10 years, and this year, that dream came true!
Sophia and Brock were married at Lake Como in Italy, and I had the privilege of capturing their beautiful lakeside celebration. It was simply incredible.
The day began with myself, Will (my 2nd shooter), and the Wheatons (their videographers) trying to find their getting ready venue. Let me just say – that neighborhood was hilariously difficult to navigate! We always like to arrive 30 minutes early, and we ended up being exactly on time. A 7 minute drive turned into a 37 minute drive (hence – why we always leave early!)… and we ended up asking an Italian man who spoke NO English whatsoever to help us. Long story short, we found it, and the day unfolded beautifully!
It was quite the adventure. After all the getting ready photos, we headed to the venue. Sophia’s Dad who is the most amazing Italian cook had Chicken Parmesan sandwiches on hand for everyone, and let me just say this pregnant lady ate up every last bit of it while riding in the back of his car on the way to the venue. It was the most delicious sandwich I’ve ever had.
Once we arrived, we were ready for the wedding! It was gorgeous and sunny… until 5pm. That was the time of the ceremony, and also happened to be the time that the rain started. We of course postponed the wedding and waited it out, but didn’t expect it to last almost an hour an a half! It rained, it hailed, there was wind, and there was waiting. But I’m so grateful for brides like Sophia who fought to have her outside lakeside wedding that she had always dreamt of. With a smaller wedding of only 15 guests, it made perfect sense to simply wait.
The wedding ceremony was beautiful. The seats were wet, so all the guests remained standing. And while we were getting closer to sunset, we soared through the family photos to make sure we had time for their bride and groom portraits! The backdrop was absolutely stunning.
I’m so grateful for the opportunity to photograph such an adventurous, international wedding. But more than that, I’m grateful to know Sophia, Brock, and their little boy Charlie. Their little family already is bursting with so much love, it was an honor to capture them dedicating their lives to one another in marriage. While there were tears from Charlie because he’s two, while there was rain at the time of their ceremony, while there was a language barrier, while there was difficulty arriving at the venue, it turned out to be perfect for THEM. It was memorable and beautiful, and I’m so honored to be the one that got to capture that sweet and memorable day!
Congratulations, Sophia and Brock! We are so happy for you. Here’s to a lifetime of gelato together!
