Nancy, you are too sweet! We were so happy to feature your fantastic images! Can’t wait to see the rest of Lara’s maternity session and her new haircut. And yes, it does take quite awhile to read through… it really is like a book! My favorite Southern tradition is Southerner’s hospitality. There is such a warmth and slower pace in the South that allows you to really enjoy life and your relationships.

  2. Mike Gothard October 27, 2011 4:16 pm

    Sweet iced tea…and cornbread! :)

  3. Jessica Magee October 27, 2011 4:35 pm

My favorite Southern tradition would have to be the Southern Hospitality. The love of my life and I have been dating for 4 and a half years now, and he still ALWAYS opens my car door for me. The South is where all the gentlemen live. :D

  4. Shea Northcut October 27, 2011 4:43 pm

Sweet tea, pearls, and southern friendliness. My favorite Southern quality would be wearing my pearls on a daily basis. You may even see me working out with my pearl earrings!

  5. Dina @ Honey + Fitz October 27, 2011 7:36 pm

First of all, congrats. I love seeing your work get the recognition it deserves!

As a transplant to the South there are lots of traditions that I have enjoyed observing and partaking in. But my favorite might be the simplest pleasure of them all – the art of sitting on a deep front porch in a comfy rocking chair with a cold drink at the end of a hot summer day. To this Yankee that will always be a quintessentially Southern experience and I’m happy to say I’ve gotten quite good at it :)

  6. Hannah October 27, 2011 8:55 pm

Dessert bars at receptions! Southern girls are proud of their baking skills so at weddings they often have an additional homemade dessert or unique groom’s cake made by the mother or grandmother. Nothing beats your grandmothers one of a kind recipes. :) I hope to have a dessert bar at my wedding someday filled with lots of homemade goodies!

  7. Sara October 28, 2011 7:06 am

o! Nancy! So happy for you and this accomplishment! I have had your blog on my reading list for awhile now. Not even sure how I found it in the first place, but you are so talented and every photo you take is beautiful! Wish I could have you take our pictures for our big day on Dec. 17th! As for a Southern tradition, I would have to say how friendly everyone is! I am technically a Northerner, and when we visit family in Boone/West Jefferson every summer, I am amazed at how many strangers wave and smile at us “tourists!” Only in the South!

  8. Mary Lindsey October 28, 2011 7:54 pm

You know I so want one of these mags, but I don’t know if it’s legal for me to enter since I’m your sister ;-) But, I’m going to press my luck & try anyway – haha. My favorite tradition is sweet tea, sweet tea, sweet tea – oh and rocking chairs.

  9. Robyn Van Dyke October 29, 2011 1:09 am

Congrats on yet another feature, Ms. Nancy! :) My favorite Southern tradition is sweet tea! It’s served everywhere!!

  10. Samantha October 30, 2011 10:56 pm

Ohhh Nan, I’m pressing my luck, too! One of my favorite southern traditions (as I have many) is the Potluck, most commonly featuring many types of casseroles!

  11. Juliet Jones October 30, 2011 10:59 pm

Nancy! Congrats on the feature! Love it! My favorite southern tradition has to be good ol’e sweet tea. My favorite!

  12. Kellie October 30, 2011 11:03 pm

I love southern food and how it is so important! I work in a very rural area and every staff meeting a different department brings home cooked southern food: BBQ, fried chicken, mashed potatoes… All the southern staples! And everyone always shares recipes! Southern food is the greatest accompaniment to good friends, good family, good conversation and good fun!

  13. Lauren Royal October 31, 2011 12:28 am

My favorite all time southern tradition would have to be sweet tea. I love it.

  14. Jessie October 31, 2011 8:54 am

Yay Nancy! You know I love your amazing photography skills but it is so great to see everyone else recognizes it as well :) My favorite thing about being Southern has to be the food. I love some BBQ and sweet tea.

  15. Erin Snyder October 31, 2011 4:41 pm

slower pace. family. sweet tea. bbq. fall. holidays together. the south is just the best! :)

  16. MT October 31, 2011 7:12 pm

Souhern tradition: banana pudding, usually made by my Godmother. She makes her own whipped cream, and uses Haitian vanilla extract. Solo delicious. Funny story: one time my sister substituted mayonnaise for (insert secret ingredient here) because she thought it was on the recipe! Hilarious!

Words cannot express how much I adore this wedding. The moment I met Jessie and Doug in my home studio, I loved them. I loved them as a couple, I loved how adorable Jessie's style was, I love how practical and steadfast Doug was... everything about them was a perfect fit.  Then, as I was hosting this consultation, the power went out. Yep!  There we sat in my home studio, with 1 candle and some window light.  They were so very gracious and understanding, and I was thrilled to hear they wanted me for their photographer after their not-so-perfect meeting. I am so glad they did!

You might remember their fantastic engagement session at the State Fair, and because it was so full of color and lights, I thought it would be hard to top it for their wedding.  Well, I was wrong!  As soon as we arrived to capture their day, I couldn't believe how perfect everything was. I was swooning over every last detail.  It made me want to have a wedding all over again. The peonies, the lace, the cupcakes, the beautiful mountain backdrop, the sprinkles, the confetti... it was so perfect.  Jessie was perfectly calm and happy, making all of her bridesmaids laugh and she soaked in the joy of the day. Doug was steadfast, strong, calm, and ready. The way he looked at her as she walked down the aisle melted my heart.  These two are perfect together.

So Jessie and Doug, thank you. It was such an honor to be there to capture your day. I hope you enjoy these photos for a lifetime!

And thank you to all the amazing vendors who helped pull of this spectacular event!

One of my favorite images of the day:

Congratulations, Jessie and Doug!

Jessie and Doug's engagement session definitely goes in my top 3 most fun sessions ever.  I always appreciate a couple who puts a lot of thought and creative ideas into their session, so when they told me they wanted their session first at their newly bought home, then at the State Fair, I knew it was going to be perfect.

When they opened the door to their adorable home, I fell in love.  Jessie's decorating style is so adorable!  I loved every bit of her home decor, and when we began talking about our obsessions with getting good deals, I knew we were going to become good friends. She and I both love finding deals on Craigslist, Etsy, and at antique stores, and the dress she wore was purchased from a vintage Etsy designer.  I hope you enjoy these sweet engagement photos as much as I do!

I love how Doug and Jessie had to have some photos of their pups included.  These dogs were so much fun, and I could tell how much they loved them.

One of my favorites :

Can you believe this swoon-worthy light? It was so dreamy!

After spending time at their sweet home, we headed to our adventure at the NC State Fair. It was the perfect night! Not too crowded, a beautiful sky, and LOTS of fair food.  Doug was quite impressive with how much he ate!

Below : Doug almost threw out his shoulder playing this game.  It was awesome.

We of course couldn't pass up the Ferris Wheel, and Jessie was a trooper!  She was not so fond of heights, so she clung to Doug the entire time. It was pretty adorable.

The fun house was SO fun.  A little crazy, but definitely fun.  I must say I was a little nervous carrying all my camera equipment on moving stairs and sidewalks, but the pictures were worth it.

Thank you Doug & Jessie for an incredible engagement session and a fun evening.  I cannot wait for your wedding next year!
